Frequently asked questions

What is thinAir Adaptive Oxygen Therapy?

thinAir Adaptive Oxygen Therapy is a personalised therapy designed to train your body to use oxygen more efficiently. By reducing inflammation in the brain and body and supporting cell repair and regeneration, we enable you to live life to the full. Powered by our Adaptive Intelligent Software, thinAir delivers award-winning science that has the power to transform your health or athletic performance.

What is Adaptive Intelligent Software?

It constantly monitors and analyses your personal biofeedback in real time to deliver the precise level of oxygen your body needs, so every session is tailored to you.

What do I need to do?

No exercise needed. You sit in a comfortable chair and breathe through a handheld mask, alternating between cycles of reduced-oxygen air and normal air, while the software does the rest. Most people find it very relaxing. You're welcome to get in touch and book a trial session.

Will I feel immediate results?

Most clients start to experience the full benefits after approximately 10 sessions. However, individuals with chronic inflammatory conditions, such as arthritis, persistent pain, sleep disturbances, or multiple sclerosis, may notice improvements sooner. Chronic inflammation is widely recognised as a root cause in many health concerns. By supporting the reduction of excess inflammation and optimising oxygen efficiency and utilisation, thinAir will make a significant improvement to your quality of life.

How long do the benefits last?

After completing the initial 15 sessions, we recommend a maintenance "Top-Up" programme every 6–8 weeks to help sustain results. Ongoing maintenance supports the body in maintaining balanced inflammatory responses and helps prevent the gradual return of unwanted inflammation in the brain and body.

Is it suitable for everybody?

Our clients range in age from 16 to 96. Everyone completes an initial assessment and health declaration, and the device has multi-level built-in safety monitoring throughout every session. If you have a high-risk condition, such as a recent heart attack or major surgery, please speak to your local thinAir centre first.

Does it feel strange?

Most people find it very relaxing. You sit and breathe normally through the mask while the air alternates between cycles.

Do I need to be fit to use it?

No. All the benefits are achieved without physical exercise. You simply sit and breathe.

How do I book?

Find your nearest thinAir location, or get in touch and we'll help you book a trial session.

By supporting key regulatory pathways in the body, thinAir helps optimise cellular repair, improve mitochondrial function, and create a stronger foundation for recovery and resilience. This enhanced biological environment improves the body's response to other health and performance strategies, helping to maximise both longevity and overall quality of life. As part of a broader wellness approach, thinAir supports healthy ageing by promoting long-term vitality, recovery, and functional wellbeing. thinAir vs Hyperbaric Oxygen Two very different approaches. One clear difference. We are always asked about the difference between thinAir and HBOT. Here's a quick overview of how thinAir Adaptive Oxygen Therapy differs from hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Feature Adaptive Oxygen Therapy Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) Oxygen exposure ✓ Personalised lower oxygen, then recovery Driven by your body's needs, adapting to flush out inflammation. – Much higher oxygen, under pressure Short periods of higher-than-normal oxygen. Primary purpose ✓ Trains your body to use oxygen better Removes inflammation and stimulates cellular repair and regeneration. – Temporarily boosts oxygen delivery To support healing. Adaptation ✓ Stimulates natural adaptation Triggers healing and regeneration pathways. – Reduces the need to adapt Oxygen efficiency ✓ Improves it You can do more with the oxygen available. – Doesn't improve it long-term May reduce it if overused. Cellular energy ✓ Enhances mitochondrial function Stimulates autophagy: clearing out dead & diseased cells. – Can impair it If used repeatedly long-term. Oxygen-sensing systems ✓ Switches them back on Strengthens normal oxygen regulation. – Can blunt them Dulls natural oxygen-sensing mechanisms. Long-term benefits ✓ Yes Improvements persist beyond therapy. – No Benefits are short-lived and fade after stopping. Risk of dependency ✓ Low People tend to keep going for the health benefits. – Higher With frequent or prolonged use. Best for ✓ Whole-body oxygen conditioning Boosts mitochondria, flushes inflammation, stimulates regeneration. – Acute injuries & wounds Infections, or temporary oxygen deficits. Think of it as ✓ A whole-system biological reset Optimising oxygen efficiency for health and longevity. – A medical support or crutch How long ✓ Designed for long-term use To support ageing well, good health and longevity. – Short-term only Limited to condition-specific use. thinAir trains your body. One builds resilience for life. HBOT supports your body. The other is for short-term medical support. Why oxygen sensing matters, and how thinAir delivers it. In 2019, the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine was awarded for the discovery of how cells sense and adapt to oxygen availability. Scientists revealed that our cells rely on a finely tuned oxygen-sensing system to regulate energy production, tissue repair, blood vessel growth, and recovery from injury. Crucially, this system responds not to constant oxygen levels, but to changes in oxygen availability. This breakthrough transformed our understanding of health, performance, and healing. thinAir Adaptive Oxygen Therapy delivers this science, and more, in practice. By delivering personalised, intermittent changes in oxygen concentration, thinAir activates the body's natural oxygen-sensing pathways, stimulating cellular adaptation without physical stress. This supports recovery, resilience, circulation, and metabolic efficiency, making it valuable for athletes, patients in rehabilitation, and individuals seeking optimised wellness. thinAir doesn't override the body's biology. It works with it, leveraging Nobel Prize–winning science to help cells do what they are designed to do: adapt, repair, and thrive. Science thinAir Redefines Precision Longevity. While fasting and temperature therapies rely on indirect metabolic stress, thinAir works at the level of oxygen, the most fundamental regulator of cellular metabolism. This distinction is profound. 01 Personalised Oxygen Optimisation Powered by our Adaptive Intelligence, oxygen level duration, intensity, and cycle frequency is dictated by your personal biofeedback rather than improvised. Duration Intensity Cycle frequency Deliberate, repeatable AMPK activation, followed by a clearly defined anabolic rebound during reoxygenation. 02 Clean Phase Separation Most stressors blur repair and growth signalling. thinAir produces a clear biological oscillation: Hypoxia AMPK-dominant repair and mitochondrial biogenesis Reoxygenation Controlled mTOR reactivation and regenerative signalling 03 Whole System Metabolic Recalibration Because oxygen influences every mitochondrion in the body, the adaptive response extends across: Skeletal muscle Neural tissue Immune modulation Endothelial function Stem cell signalling Not a localised or superficial stimulus. A whole-system metabolic recalibration. 04 Intelligent Stress, Without Nutrient Deprivation Unlike caloric restriction, thinAir does not require: Chronic energy restriction Loss of lean mass Hormonal suppression Long-term compliance strain Gentle cellular stress without systemic depletion.
